MUSIC
“Music
is the shorthand of emotion”, said Leo Tolstoy. It doesn’t just have the power
to evoke memories, it makes us feel a whole range of emotions. Music is an
explosive expression ofhumanity, it is something we are all touched by. No
matter what culture we are from, everyone loves music.
We
can think of at least one song that when we hear it, triggers an emotional
response. We have such a deep connection with music because it is hardwired in
our brains and bodies.
Given
the deep connection we have with music, it is perhaps unsurprising that
numerous studies have shown it can benefit our mental health.
Bob
Marley once sang: “One good thing about music, is when it hits you, you feel no
pain”. If music was a drug, it would be marketable. Music is a non-invasive,
safe, cheap, intervention that should be available to everyone.
Music
is now considered a beneficial treatment for depression, it triggers vivid
memories in sufferers and can assist people to recall difficult parts of their
lives that perhaps were not necessarily as bad as they had thought. Listening
to music reduces pain, increases functional mobility, reminds us of certain
periods and events in our lives that make us smile. Music affects our emotions.
When we listen to sad songs, we tend to feel a decline in mood, when we listen
to happy songs we feel happier.
Music
is a crucial element of everyday life. It is a language of emotion in that it
can represent different feelings, music improves our health and well-being. It exerts
a powerful influence on human beings
It
doesn’t matter who you are, where you’re from, or what your interests are, listening
to music is one of those universal experiences that almost everyone enjoys.
Music
is a vital part of different moments of human life. It spreads happiness and
joy in a person’s life. Music is the soul of life and gives us immense peace.
In the words of William Shakespeare, if music is the food of love, play on, give me excess of it, that surfeiting, the appetite may
sicken and so die. Thus, music helps us in connecting with our souls or real
self.
